Homo Lupus (Lycanthrope)

Bipedal Carnivore

(překlad textu je v pořadí)

Years after Edward Harrell had overcome the affliction of the lupus strain, which left him with deformities in the spine and legs, his research turned to a more altruistic approach, applying the information derived from his cure of the virus to similar ailments, spearheading vaccines that could be used against Polio, amongst other diseases. On various occasions his specimens were used in presentations to raise awareness of these cases, and one such display was a Lycanthrope. We can only ascertain that Harrell did not present these examples as "lycanthropes" -more likely an inflicted individual of the Lupus strain.
Lycans are indeed a species, the symbiotic nature of the pathogen within their blood is transferable to other hominids, as we share a common ancestor. The virus itself could be considered a remnant of this relationship which evolved into a single species, with new born Lycans carrying the virus at a genetic level, which has a perfect equilibrium with the host. Cases of infection in humans are rare due to the low numbers of lycans and the unlikelihood of infection.

This lycanthrope cannot be identified as a new born lycan or an infected human who gave birth to this infant. Regardless it was born Lycan, yet suffered some degree of malformation of the lungs. The specimen is presented in a lovely cabinet which unfolds to show a series of illustrations depicting lycanthrope anatomy. The drawer below this, a large dissection case.

The prize possession of Edward Harrell, this specimen of a young adult male Lycanthrope was housed in Harrell’s home, in the centre of his Drawing room. Although how and where he obtained the werewolf was never fully explained, Edward treated it with the utmost respect, and was often found staring longingly at it.
After the events of 1819, Edward changed his stance on the treatment of the Lycan race, taking no further live specimens for his experiments in curing the Lupus Viral strain. It is believed that in the year following his attack, Edward struggled to overcome his affliction of Lycanthropy, yet from what evidence there is, his cure worked, and cemented his more ethical approach to biology and the study of this illusive creature.

This piece was given to Lord Merrylin, along with Harrells entire Homo Lupus collection at the end of his life in 1906. Merrylin was very fond of Harrell and from Merrylins diaries, they often traveled together. The Cryptid Collection is still analysing the boxes of diaries pertaining to these adventures, and hopefully more information will arise on the relationship between these enigmatic men.

A species that once graced the plains of Mesopotamia long before the arrival of Homo sapien, Homo Lupus are one of two divergent symbiotic hominids, descended from a common ancestor, most likely early groups of Neanderthal. Homo Lupus were large wolf like omnivores- both males and females growing to around 7 ft. They had a matriarchal society, very similar to that of Bonobos chimps, yet there is evidence that they developed advanced civilization, and are perhaps responsible for the precursor to the birth of agriculture. They are the origin of the "werewolf" myth, but supernatural they are not. The species carries an Immuno-efficient pathogen, one that can indeed infect other hominids. This virus carries genetic information, which can lead to a traumatic augmentation of bone, muscle and skin tissue. In most cases infection kills the host. Most Lycanthrope were born, much like any other mammal. What remains of their species in the 21st century is conjecture. Edward Harrell spent a great deal of his life studying the remaining populations of Lycanthrope in the forests of Scandinavia around 1820, and he himself became infected with the Lupus viral strain. He took many trophies, yet this head was not owned by him. Merrylin acquired this from Hoxton Butcher, the infamous poacher, tradesman and big game hunter. Its unknown how he came across this specimen, yet he bragged he took on this adult male bare fist, which is highly unlikely considering Hoxton suffered from obesity, and a mild heart condition.
